Description
The Irrigation Technician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of irrigation systems across residential and commercial properties. This role operates primarily in the field and requires strong technical knowledge, problem-solving ability, and attention to detail.
In addition to technical responsibilities, the Irrigation Technician is expected to identify opportunities for irrigation system improvements and recommend additional services that support proper water management and landscape health.
Pay Rate: $25-32/hour DOE +5% commission on sales on installations/upgrades
Responsibilities:
1. Irrigation System Repair and Maintenance
- Diagnose and repair irrigation system issues, including:
- Broken or leaking lines
- Malfunctioning valves and solenoids
- Faulty sprinkler heads and emitters
- Timer and controller issues
- Perform routine system checks and adjustments, ensure proper coverage, water pressure, and system efficiency, respond to service calls in a timely and professional manner
2. Installation and System Upgrades
- Install new irrigation systems for residential and commercial properties
- Perform system expansions, retrofits, and upgrades
- Install and program controllers, including smart irrigation systems
- Ensure installations meet company standards and local requirements
3. Water Efficiency and System Optimization
- Evaluate irrigation performance and recommend improvements; adjust systems based on seasonal needs and plant requirements
- Identify areas of overwatering or under watering; support water conservation efforts through proper system setup
- Identify opportunities for additional work, including system upgrades or replacements, controller upgrades, leak repairs and efficiency improvements
- Communicate findings clearly to management or clients
- Support proposal development with accurate field information, present recommendations in a professional and service-oriented manner
5. Customer Interaction
- Communicate clearly with clients regarding system condition and repairs
- Provide basic education on system use when appropriate
- Maintain a professional and respectful presence on all job sites
- Maintain assigned vehicle, tools, and equipment in good working condition
- Track and report materials used on each job
- Ensure proper handling and storage of parts and tools
- Follow all company safety procedures and guidelines
- Operate tools and equipment safely and responsibly
- Maintain awareness of job site hazards and conditions
Qualifications
- Minimum 3 years of experience in irrigation installation and repair
- Strong knowledge of irrigation systems, components, and troubleshooting
- Experience with controllers, valves, and system diagnostics
- Ability to work independently and manage daily workload
- English fluency required (spoken and written)
- Valid driver’s license with clean driving record
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with smart irrigation systems and water management technology
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus
- Experience working in residential and commercial environments
Physical Requirements
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
- Ability to dig, lift, and perform physical labor as required
- Ability to walk properties and work on uneven terrain
